Best Time to Visit Germany
The best time to visit Germany is generally May–September & December (markets). This season-by-season guide covers peak, shoulder and low season, the weather you can expect, the festivals that fill hotels and what to pack.
Weather in Germany
Warm summers, crisp autumns and cold winters with snow in the south and east. Rain is possible in any month.
Peak, shoulder and low season
Peak season runs June–August and December (Christmas markets), with the highest flight and hotel demand. Shoulder season (May and September–October) offers similar conditions with thinner crowds. Low season (January–March, outside the Alps) is the cheapest, with less predictable weather or reduced opening hours at some attractions.
Festivals and holidays
Oktoberfest (late September–early October) transforms Munich pricing, and Christmas markets fill city hotels through December.
What to pack for Germany
Layers and a rain jacket; proper winter kit from November.
